June dates in Kassel

Published by on

If you are in Kassel this summer we cordially invite you to join the drawing sessions both within and outside of documenta venues, and some will be online. We have equipped a Composting Knowledge Drawing Room on the 3rd floor at Hafenstraße 76, and we have a mobile Plein Air Drawing Kit to set up sessions anywhere, for example at ruruHaus, at Lumbung Kios or in the Fulda Aue. Here is what's planned so far in June:

Thursday 16 June from 12.00 – 13.00 CET
Re-drawing the Economy
Drawing Room at Hafenstraße 3rd Floor

Mapping out the diverse economic underpinnings and the Lumbung of the Rural School of Economics in Kassel, Kathrin and Wapke together with curator and lecturer Kuba Szreder / Centre for Plausible Economies.

Friday 17 June from 10.00 – 11.00 CET
Trans-Local Drawing
On Zoom

Drawing the particularities of the space you are in, to explain it to someone else. We are meeting with Composting Knowledge colleagues Sandra Schäfer (Akademie der Bildenden Künste München) and Joseph Rustom (Académie Libanaise des Beaux Arts, Beirut) to visit each other’s art space through remote drawing.

Friday 17 June from 13.00 – 14.00 CET
Geological Tour
Meet at Friedrichsplatz, in front of Fridericianum

Guided walk to the Erdkilometer, a permanent art work by Walter de Maria for documenta 6 in 1977, which was inserted across the geological layers without honouring them. Together with Ottoneum based geologist Dr. Conny Kurz. Wapke made a geological animation of the site and you can watch it here.

Friday 17 June from 14.30 -16.00 CET
Sketching Trade Systems and Book Presentation
Local Undercurrent Automaten, Lumbung Kios at Hübner Areal

Describing and speculating on formats for trade systems that exist all around us, and alongside the mainstream retail logic: from donations to swaps, Happy Hours to for free. The idea of interdependent economies in the arts will be introduced by Kuba Szreder, author of The ABC of the projectariat: living and working in a precarious art world”, published by Manchester University Press and The Whitworth.

Sunday 19 June from 13.00 – 15.00 CET
Rural Mindset Drawing
Drawing Room at Hafenstraße 3rd Floor, with Wapke - see also the Drawing Section on the RSoE website.

Re-drawing the Economy

Rural Undercurrents

Myvillages keeps looking for more undercurrents. The vending machines at Huebner Areal will be re-stocked, and we bring fresh flowers and summer berries from the garden to the Drawing Room in Hafenstrasse (third floor).
