ruangrupa established in 2000

ruangrupa is an artist initiative and art space based in Jakarta, Indonesia, founded in 2000 by a group of artists in Jakarta. As a non-profit organization, ruangrupa promotes the advancement of art ideas in the urban context and the broad scope of culture through exhibitions, festivals, art laboratories, workshops, research, and the publication of books, magazines, and online journals.
We work collaboratively and multi-disciplinary with young artists, students, researchers, architects, writers, curators, musicians, cultural producers, small to medium scale traders, and as well our neighbors. Since then, our collaborators, friends, and our participants become our members constantly to develop many projects in different contexts at local and international events.
Through its development, ruangrupa has evolved into a contemporary art collective and study ecosystem, together with two organizations (Serrum and Grafis Huru Hara) and many individuals who support and contribute to this process.
Together they present Gudskul Ekosistem—a public learning space that carries the values of equality, sharing, solidarity, friendship, and togetherness: https://gudskul.art/
